Some of the best weekends in Northeast Texas start with a short drive, and Sulphur Springs is one of my favorite places to point the car from Omaha. About 50 miles down I-30, the town they call The Celebration City packs wine tastings, live music, a historic square, and a full fall festival calendar into one easy day trip. If you have been browsing Omaha Texas real estate or looking at Delta County homes, this is the kind of outing that makes Northeast Texas living feel full.
Uncorked: Wine, Music and Art on the Square
On Saturday, October 10, the Uncorked Wine, Music & Art Festival takes over Celebration Plaza on the downtown square. The motto says it all: Sip. Stroll. Shop Local. Wine tastings, live music, local artists, and artisans fill the afternoon, and the event benefits a local nonprofit each year. The festival's official page at uncorkedsstx.org posts the full lineup, and it is a lovely way to spend a crisp fall afternoon.
The Hopkins County Fall Festival and the Handmade Market
The very next weekend, October 22 through 24, the Hopkins County Fall Festival brings a parade, arts and crafts, and a creative arts contest to the Civic Center grounds. The Fall Handmade Market runs Friday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sulphur Springs High School, with local makers selling everything from quilts to woodwork. Live music fans can also catch the Goldrush Music Festival at Rawhide Western Town on Saturday, October 24, so there is plenty of reason to head west.
A Town Built Around Gathering
Sulphur Springs earned its Celebration City nickname honestly. Celebration Plaza was once a parking lot; today it is red-brick streets, local shops, and a lighted Texas-star fountain that dances to music during the holidays. The 1894 Hopkins County Courthouse anchors the square, Heritage Park preserves 11 historic buildings, and the Hopkins County Museum tells the region's story from Caddo relics to Civil War memorabilia. Grab a coffee at The Stable on Main Street or breakfast at Pioneer Cafe, and the day trip turns into a slow, happy loop around the square.
An Easy Drive From 414 E Main St
From 414 E Main St in Omaha, it is about 50 miles to Sulphur Springs, roughly an hour down I-30 through Mount Pleasant. That is an easy morning drive for a festival, a market, or just a day of wandering. And when you come home, the house on nearly an acre is waiting: the back deck for a cool evening, the vaulted living room with its brick fireplace for the first cold snap. Small-town Texas living means weekends like this are close, and home is even closer.
